Now on its 11th year, the Hidden Artists Exhibit will once again be on display at the John C. Hitt Library main floor from August 1, 2018 – September 28, 2018. The artwork on display will include a variety of styles, subjects, mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, and mixed media. The exhibit will feature the talents of Maribel Amaro-Garcia, Kimberly Berry, Gina Clifton, Pamela Williams Gruen, Dawn Herrod, Jacqui Johnson, Meredith Malkin, Russ Muller, Judy Bragg Pardo, Brian Pate, Chris Saclolo, M.C. Santana, Paul Viau, and many more artists within UCF.
Reception is September 13, 2018, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the library in Room 223. Open to the public. There will be refreshments and the opportunity to talk with the artists.

]]>In that time, she has conducted field work in Croatia, Yemen, Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and most recently Tunisia, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar. Results from this work have been published in Foreign Affairs, American Economic Journals: Applied Economics, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, British Journal of Political Science, and World Development. Dr. Mironova also a has a book forthcoming with Oxford University Press, and has documented some of her field work at instagram.com/vera_mironov
Dr. Mironova will discuss what motivates foreign fighters to join Islamist movements outside of their home countries, what motivates the same fighters to give up fighting, and the benefits and drawbacks for armed groups employing foreign fighters in their ranks. The event is open to the UCF community, and afternoon refreshments will be served.

]]>This fall, the College of Community Innovation and Education is offering a reading clinic for K-5 students on UCF's South Lake campus. Your child will be paired with an undergraduate education student for individualized support in developing their reading, writing, and thinking abilities. Reading and Language Arts faculty supervise the clinic. The final session includes a parent conference with suggested at-home activities.

In addition, the OMA will have a small event for the Indie Galactic Space Jam held in the SunTrust Auditorium. This theme and event is about Video games and Outer space. Artists will create pieces inspired by the Galaxy, Space and NASA. This will be the kick-off event for the 4th Annual Indie Galactic Space Jam, a 48-hour co-op game development competition amongst artists, tech professionals and innovators of all kinds.

]]>VanNordstrand and Perkinson join our UCF faculty from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Soprano Shelby VanNordstrand has appeared as a soloist with a wide range of ensembles and companies; including Lorin Maazel's Castleton Festival, New York Lyric Opera Theatre, Opera Omaha, Omaha Symphony, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Simon Estes Young Artist Program, and the Omaha Chamber Music Society.
Dr. Perkinson is an award-winning artist and educator and performs with the Omaha Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Madison Bach Musicians, Omaha Chamber Music Society, and has toured internationally with the musical The King and I. In 2009 Dr. Perkinson founded Sound Health, an award-winning program that brings live music to hospitals.
