John Rife III was so pleased with his Winter Park Harvest Festival the last couple years that he decided to give it a permanent venue.

Rife, a real estate developer and avid supporter of Central Florida’s eat local movement, spent $775,000 on a more than 15,000-square-foot, two-story, bank-owned building on Corrine Drive and East End Avenue in Orlando’s Audubon Park neighborhood.

The reason — he wants to build an indoor farmer’s market, commercial kitchen and restaurant that will source some of its ingredients from an adjacent outdoor garden.

“It’s basically combining two of my passions,” said Rife, 36, who is a commercial real estate developer in the Millenia area and founded the Winter Park Harvest Festival — which debuted in 2010 to support businesses and vendors dedicated to the slow foods movement. Read More
