Orlando Repertory Theatre (The REP) presents the 10th Annual Writes of Spring 2013, Cobblestones, adapted from the select writings of over 1,800 Central Florida students, by Brandon Yagel and Jason Gerhard, and directed by Tara Kromer. A collaboration between The REP, the graduate students in the UCF Theatre for Young Audiences MFA Program, and the young people from the greater Orlando community, Writes of Spring is sponsored by Florida Blue, with support from Winn Dixie. The performances are Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1 at 7:00pm.
Writes of Spring is a unique writing contest designed to support literacy and promote creative expression in young people. Students entering Writes of Spring are given a writing prompt. The play-making team then reviews the writing entries and selects a small amount to develop one play.
This year, 1,890 entries were received for the prompt “the truth about me...” The team selected 120 entries, ranging from poetry, to personal narratives and creative stories to develop this year’s play, Cobblestones. The play introduces viewers to the students’ world of playfulness, pain, confidence, and self-doubt.
