CRCV Distinguished Professor Lecture

Thursday, August 1, 2013 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The Center for Research in Computer Vision is pleased to announce a lecture from Dr. Arnold W. M. Smeulders titled
"How Can Computers Search for Images (of Boats) It Has Never Seen Before?" on Thursday, August 1, 2 p.m., at the Harris Engineering Center, Room 101. Dr. Smeudlers is director of COMMIT, a public-private research partnership in the Netherlands that focuses on solving grand challenges in information and communication science. He is an international expert in the theory and practice of visual search and will share his fascinating research into how a computer can recognize objects without knowing anything about the physics of the object. He will discuss existing methods for searching for an arbitrary image and what can and cannot be expected from search engines in the near future.
