SRMA Introduction and Secular Safe Zone Facilitator Training - Diversity Initiative for Secular and Religious Minority Awareness

Friday, April 18, 2014 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This workshop is for anyone interested in being certified as a facilitator for the national Secular Safe Zone program to lead workshops in local schools (3-4 p.m.) and for those interested in learning about the SRMA workshops that will begin in the fall semester (4-4:30).

Open promotion of respect for people of all faith and non-faith perspectives is essential for an inclusive environment. Coming this fall, Secular and Religious Minority Awareness (SRMA) workshops, which will include the Secular Safe Zone Allies component, will generate dialogue to help increase our understanding of the diverse faith and non-faith perspectives around us, focusing on the rapid growth of Secular Americans.

What does it mean to be a Secular American? What challenges do they face? What resources are available? How do we all work together to create an inclusive atmosphere for our students and colleagues of all faith and non-faith perspectives?

Estimated schedule (please indicate in your RSVP if you will attend only part of this):

2:30-3:00 - Introductions and general discussion

3:00-4:00 - Secular Safe Zone Facilitator Certification, presented by the national office for the Secular Student Alliance, for those who wish to lead SSZ workshops at local schools.

4:00-4:30 - SRMA initiative introduction and discussion. Read More
