Conflict Management, Mediation, & Negotiation (UCF Faculty & Staff Only) - PER102

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This 7-hour program is being held over two sessions on September 18 & 25 from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. As a leader, it’s critical to create a work environment that enables people to thrive. One key to success is to identify your strengths and skills in addressing types of conflict and what approach to use in resolving it. This session will cover strategies to help you assess your leadership style in conflict situations, using several tools. It also addresses the balance between assertiveness and cooperativeness and how to build trust and relationships during conflict or negotiations.
At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
1. Define conflict, including the differences between its two distinct types – interpersonal and structural
2. Evaluate Conflict Resolution Approaches
3. Evaluate conflicts to determine if they can be resolved
4. Implement a procedure to resolve problems that have viable solutions
5. Techniques for ADR: The Mediation Process & Role of the Mediator
6. Describe the types of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) available at UCF
7. Describe main features of Principled Negotiation
8. Evaluate Negotiation Styles
It is important to have a foundational knowledge of conflict resolution, so the Introduction to Conflict Resolution (TKI) is strongly encouraged as well as the Emotional Intelligence course prior to completing this class. The TKI class is offered online and in-person. The emotional intelligence course is offered in person.
