WUCF Screening - Last Days in Vietnam

Wednesday, April 22, 2015 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
WUCF TV presents a special preview screening of the Academy Award
nominated documentary “Last Days in Vietnam” at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22
at the Orlando Science Center. Admission is free, and the event is open to the
public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
“Last Days in Vietnam” chronicles the chaotic final days of the
Vietnam War, as the North Vietnamese Army closed in on Saigon and South
Vietnamese resistance crumbled. City after city and village after village fell
to the North while the few U.S. diplomats and military operatives still in the
country contemplated withdrawal. With the lives of thousands of South
Vietnamese hanging in the balance, those in control faced an impossible choice
-- who would go and who would be left behind to face brutality, imprisonment or
even death.
WUCF is inviting the public to view the screening and to participate
in a panel discussion that follows. The panel
will be moderated by John Bersia, host of WUCF TV’s Global Perspectives and
will include Ret. Col. Gerald Berry, Marine Corps pilot who logged over 18
hours evacuating hundreds of South Vietnamese citizens and is featured in the
film; Ret. Col. Joe Kittinger, Air Force Pilot who served three combat tours of
duty in Vietnam, flying over 483 combat missions and then spending 11 months a
s a prisoner of war; Dr. Hoi Van Do, President of the Federation of Vietnamese
Community of the U.S. and medical doctor who spent 3 years in a concentration
camp before escaping Vietnam; and Tuoi Van Luu, President of the Vietnamese
Community of Florida and former South Vietnamese Special Forces solider who
spent 10 years in a communist concentration camp.

“Last Days in Vietnam” is part of a special week of WUCF programming
beginning April 27 related to the Vietnam War. Directed by Rory Kennedy and
airing in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, the film
will premiere on WUCF as an AMERICAN EXPERIENCE presentation from 9 to 11 p.m.
