The UCF College of Medicine and UCF Alumni Association invite you to UCF MedTalk where Dr. Anette Khaled will discuss "Tackling Breast Cancer."October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and theUCF College of Medicine, is calling on all Knights to help Tackle Breast Cancer by donning pink to this event to raise awareness in hopes of finding a cure. About one in eight U.S. women - about 12 percent - will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. The goal of raising breast cancer awareness in October, and year round, is to make more women, and their friends and families, more aware of the problem at hand. With awareness comes the ability to catch breast cancer early and solve the problem.Join leading breast cancer researcher Dr. Annette Khaled for her insight on how we tackle breast cancer research. What is UCF MedTalk?Whether you’re a College of Medicine grad, or just a curious Knight who enjoys learning more about current and innovative issues in medicine, all are encouraged to join this unique conversation. This special series of informal talks includes a casual meeting place, plain language and comfortable atmosphere for everyone. Each researcher or physician will give a brief presentation, followed by a Q&A session. About the SpeakerDr. Khaled received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida. For her post-doctoral training, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Scott Durum at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in Frederick, MD. Dr. Khaled was awarded a competitive Career Development Award from the NCI and was recruited to the University of Central Florida to join the newly formed Biomolecular Science Center, which later grew into the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences at the UCF College of Medicine. To date, her research at UCF has been funded by multiple RO1 grants from NIH and most recently the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to develop therapeutic peptides for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. Dr. Khaled has produced over 49 publications and presented her research at numerous national and international scientific meetings, most recently at the American Association of Immunologists and the Gordon Conference for Cancer Nanotechnology. Space is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.
