UCF to Celebrate “A New Gym on the Block”

UCF’s Recreation and Wellness Center, alongside President John C. Hitt, will be hosting a block party to celebrate the success of a new 8,700 square foot fitness facility.



Orlando, Fla. (March 25, 2013) – More than 15,000 UCF students have made health a priority this year by visiting UCF’s Recreation and Wellness Center @ Knights Plaza. The RWC @ Knights Plaza, completed in January, is an 8,700 square foot facility consisting of approximately 5,700 square feet of workout space. In less than two months, the RWC @ Knights Plaza has established itself as a worthwhile addition to the UCF campus.



On Friday April 5, 2013, UCF President John C. Hitt, SGA President Cortez Whatley, UCF faculty and staff will host a block party to celebrate the RWC @ Knights Plaza’s success. The block party will begin with a formal ceremony and remarks from President Hitt and others from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The RWC @ Knights Plaza is located on UCF’s main campus at the corner of West Plaza Drive and Gemini Blvd North in Orlando, FL. Music, festivities and giveaways will last from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.



“The Recreation and Wellness Center is dedicated to providing programs and facilities that foster healthy lifestyles,” said James Wilkening the Recreation and Wellness Center Director. “Students have made it extremely clear that RWC @ Knights Plaza is a worthwhile addition to campus and their lives.”



“Students love the RWC @ Knight’s Plaza,” said Scott Mauro the Recreation and Wellness Center marketing coordinator. “The block party is a perfect way to celebrate this new facility and our Knights Plaza neighbors."



About the Recreation and Wellness Centers



The 85,000 square foot UCF Recreation and Wellness Center Phase I opened in 2002 and expanded to 150,000 square feet in 2011. In 2013, the RWC @ Knights Plaza opened to all UCF students. Paid memberships are available to faculty, staff, alumni and UCF affiliated organizations. Funded by the Student Government Association of UCF, the RWC’s facilities offer free weights, cardiovascular and weight machine, group exercise studios, a custom climbing wall with 20 different routes, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, a disc golf course, numerous intramural sports fields, a leisure pool, an outdoor lap pool and year-round programming in intramural sports, fitness, aquatics and outdoor adventure.
