UCF and the Great American Eclipse

Monday, August 21, 2017 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Safely view the first partial solar eclipse easily visible from UCF in 12 years, and the deepest solar eclipse visible from UCF in 47 years! Barring rain or clouds, we will be able to see the partial version of the total solar eclipse that is happening this day in other parts of the US. The moon will block about 85% of the Sun at maximum, reducing the Sun to just a dramatic crescent. We will have telescopes and eclipse glasses on the Millican Hall side of the Reflecting Pond so that you can safely look at the eclipsed Sun. (Note that at no time during a partial solar eclipse is it safe to look at the Sun without proper protective equipment!) Physics Department professors and students will be on hand to answer your questions. Note that while we will strive to have the event even in imperfect weather, if it is raining we may have to cancel. For more information about the eclipse, visit https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/ or http://eclipse2017.nasa.gov.
