Evaluating Evidence: Arson Scene to the Courtroom  Michael Sigman, Ph.D.

Professor, UCF Department of Chemistry and Director of the National Center for Forensic Science

Our September Distinguished Speaker, Michael Sigman, Ph.D., has served as a professor at UCF since 2002.

After completing his doctoral research at Florida State University in physical organic chemistry, Sigman was hired as a research scientist with Dow Chemical Co. in Midland, MI, and later at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee where he spent 12 years researching areas ranging from environmental photochemistry to explosives analysis.

Sigman's research areas include fire debris analysis and the use of chemometrics to interpret data and interference from the presence or absence of ignitable liquid residue. HIs work has been published in over 70 journal publications and book chapters, and cited over 1,300 times by colleagues and peers.
