Economic Crisis and Migration in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico has experienced its largest migration wave since the onset of the economic recession in 2006. This presentation will estimate the magnitude of the island’s population displacement to the United States, particularly to Florida, as a result of the ongoing economic downturn, and assess the multiple effects of population loss in Puerto Rico. It will also analyze the spectacular growth of the Puerto Rican population in the Orlando metropolitan area. Guest Speaker: Dr. Jorge Duany, Director of Cuban Research Institute and Professor of Anthropology at Florida International University.
