Graduate Research Essentials Workshop for Science

Tuesday, February 6, 2018 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

This workshop provides an opportunity to meet with the subject librarian assigned to your program to learn about academic resources in your discipline, how to apply effective library research strategies, and get help with questions about Science related resources. As you get ready to do your literature review for a research paper, thesis, or dissertation, this 90‐minute workshop will focus on introducing you to sources available at the John C. Hitt Library and in discipline‐specific online databases.

The workshop will cover Web of Science, a rich collection of citation indexes representing the citation connections between scholarly research articles found in the most globally significant journals, books, and proceedings in the sciences. The workshop will also provide hands‐on practice using Web of Science to find articles in your field, options to track research in particular journals or by specific authors, and ways to monitor new research output going forward. Other resources such as SciFinder Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Biological Science Database will also be highlighted depending on the background of the workshop attendees. We will make sure to include subject specific searching in the academic program of interest of those who are present and a demonstration on how to find dissertations and theses at the UCF Libraries.
