Simulation-Past, Present and Future

This presentation covers the history of
simulation with examples of training devices going back to the Link
Trainer(1929) and others from that point in time, on to the present. Various
applications of simulation to include defense, medical, transportation,
entertainment and others are shown. The impacts of simulation on the Central Florida, the epicenter of Modeling and
Simulation, are described in terms of the economy, jobs and the ever-important
pipeline of skill-sets necessary to flourish are covered. The need for teacher STEM education and training is explained and
highlighted. Lastly, projections of the future of simulation are outlined. Hank Okraski is a simulation consultant. Before retiring
from government service, he was the Chief Scientist of the Naval Air Warfare
Center Training Systems Division. Currently on the Board of Directors of the National Center for Simulation and Chairs the
Education and Workforce Development Committee. A registered Professional
Engineer (PE) and Certified Modeling and
Simulation Professional (CMSP). Formerly adjunct faculty member at Rollins College and University of Central Florida.
Authored ”The Wonderful World of Simulation.” Mr. Okraski has a bachelors degree in electrical engineering
from Clarkson University and a masters degree from the
University of Florida. He has received numerous awards
among them, his most proud, the Golden Knight Award from Clarkson, the highest
