SUMMARY:"But Before Bone is Skin" curated by Jonell Logan
URL:https://events.ucf.edu/event/1999196/but-before-bone-is-skin-curated-by-jonell-logan/
DESCRIPTION:Tayari Jones' book Silver Sparrow is truly the story of women.\n\nMothers and daughters struggling to find their identities and shed legacies that may not be their own. They are all on a quest to define themselves, often bruising and sometimes tearing their skin along the way as they bump against historical, cultural and familial boundaries.\n\nBut Before Bone is Skin, curated by Jonell Logan explores this space of women The path that we take to find peace and resolve in who we are. The artists in the show question and construct internal spaces that are secret, yet teased out and sometimes shared with others. They challenge notions of beauty and the definitions, often prescribed by others, of femininity and propriety. They share their individual questions and journey through womanhood.\n\nExhibiting Artists: Melissa Alexander, Shanequa Gay, Yanique Norman, Sharon Norwood and Zipporah Camille Thompson \n \nLearn more about the exhibition: \n\nExhibition Dates: January 11 - February 5, 2021 \n \nOur physical gallery space has reopened! DESCRIPTION:Join UCF Academic Health Sciences colleagues from medicine, nursing and health professions and sciences for a continuing education opportunity. Thanatology veteran, UCF alumna Dr. Darcy Harris '81 will lead a timely conversation around cultivating compassion as healthcare providers in the midst of grief. \n\nDescription: Compassion-based approaches have been widely supported through recent research in the field with diverse populations. These approaches are of specific interest for grieving individuals due to their capacity-building effect for clinicians and patients alike. Training in compassion has demonstrated enhanced ability to tolerate distress, maintain focus, and discern clinical interventions that are appropriate in a variety of contexts. Cultivating a compassionate stance provides clinicians with the opportunity to engage patients with their full attention and presence, allowing openness and receptivity for both the painful and the adaptive aspects of the patient's experiences.\n\nVirtual Location URL: https://ucf.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_c38KdOakQFCEVIc2LmjjYw
