SUMMARY:Pathways 2022: The Carlos Malamud Prize Exhibition
URL:https://events.ucf.edu/event/2452352/pathways-2022-the-carlos-malamud-prize-exhibition/
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is the result of a collaborative partnership between the UCF Art Gallery at the University of Central Florida and the Rollins Museum of Art to celebrate and support emerging professional artists working in Florida. Juried by an external panel of three professionals from various areas of the art world, this year's edition of the exhibition features six artists with diverse practices. The selection includes a variety of media, themes, scales, and approaches, showing a wide breadth of perspectives and experiences. Works by the six finalists will be shown at both venues, creating opportunities for engagement with two of the area's major academic constituencies and their surrounding communities. The winning artist of Pathways: The Carlos Malamud Prize will receive a $10,000 cash prize, a solo exhibition at the RMA in the summer of 2023, and will participate as a juror for the following edition of the exhibition. The winner will also receive additional professional development and support. This consistent engagement over time makes Pathways unique and transformative among other art competitions. It hopes to nurture emerging artists and provide a pathway to success, which coincides with the core missions of both presenting institutions.\n\nThis year's finalists are Eugene Ofori Agyei, Channing Gray, Aimee Jones, Eric Ondina, Ivan Riascos, and April Webb.\n\nThe finalists were selected by an independent panel of jurors: \nLiz Parks, Art Advisor and Founder of Parks Fine Art, New York \nJonell Logan, Independent Curator and Vice President and Creative Director of the McColl Center, North Carolina Omari Booker, Visual Artist, Los Angeles, and Nashville\n\nThe funding for the prize is generously provided by Mr. Carlos Malamud of Miami, FL.\n\n_______________________________________________________________________________________\n\nThe UCF Art Gallery at the University of Central Florida serves as a catalyst for visual art experiences and education, culture, and community engagement. Current UCF Faculty and UCF Staff can enroll for the SCUBA course if they have a current Recreation and Wellness Center Membership.\n\nUpon successful completion of this course and check-out dives, graduates are considered competent to engage in open water diving activities without supervision, provided the diving activities and the areas dived approximate those of training. No previous SCUBA experience is required; however, basic swimming skills are necessary to complete the course.\n\nCost \nThe total cost of the certification is $320 with $40 due at the time of registration. The rest of the price is due the first weekend of the certification paid to Ranger Rick SCUBA Adventures.\n\nSchedule\n\nIn order for the participant to receive the SCUBA certification, they must complete two consecutive weekends of training. SUMMARY:Pegasus PlayLab Workshop 'The Body'
URL:https://events.ucf.edu/event/2447668/pegasus-playlab-workshop-the-body/
DESCRIPTION:While mom is away, Abby and her stepdad Joe spend a week together for the first time. Then an \nunusual crate appears on their doorstep, and they work to unravel the meaning of its contents--a \nlife-sized doll with no face, and an instruction manual with no words. The deeper they delve into the secrets of this package, the more it threatens their tenuous emotional equilibrium. Was this doll sent here to repair their relationship? Or is it a harbinger of a more disturbing truth for Joe?\n\nContent Warning: This play involves moments of violence. \n\nWhat to expect at a workshop \n\nWhat you will see on stage is the culmination of 8 days of rehearsals, script changes and discussions between the actors, playwright, director, dramaturg, and designers. Actors will bring the new work to life in front of the audience with scripts in-hand and minimal staging. After the performance, discuss what you saw and heard with the playwright, director, cast and the rest of the creative team. You play a crucial role in the work's development through your feedback. \nRegistration Link: https://performingarts.cah.ucf.edu/theatre/pegasus-playlab/\nRegistration Info: Visit our website to purchase tickets.
