This workshop is designed for researchers at any career stage who want to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their data analysis and computational research.

Inspired by the paper Good Enough Practices in Scientific Computing (Wilson et al., 2017), the session introduces “good computing practices that every researcher can adopt, regardless of their current level of computational skill.” Topics include data management, programming, collaborating with colleagues, organizing projects, tracking work and writing manuscripts. Participants will share ideas and practices to make computational research smoother — much like the basic lab skills one is introduced to and trained on for a smooth and safe lab experience.

Prerequisites: None. This workshop is open to anyone participating in or planning to conduct scientific research involving computing.

Learning outcomes:
- Good enough practices for data management
- Good enough practices for project organization
- Good enough practices for file naming conventions
- Good enough practices for tracking changes

Please note: This event will not be recorded. Presentation materials, if provided by the presenter, will be emailed to all registrants by the end of the second business day following the event. If you did not register but would like access to the materials, email ResearchITEvents@ucf.edu two business days after the workshop concludes.

Join Devon Newhouse, Ph.D., for an exploration of the global influences that have shaped Goan cuisine through the history of feni, the first distilled spirit to receive a geographic indication designation in India. Although feni's distillation techniques predate the arrival of Europeans in India, the Portuguese introduction of cashews gave Goans a new ingredient.

The talk will also highlight how food studies uncover the global influences within Indian cuisine and explore funding opportunities, including the Fulbright Scholarship, that make this research possible.

Moderated by: Ty Matejowsky, Ph.D., professor and chair of UCF's Department of Anthropology
