DESCRIPTION:Paper House explores fragility, transparency, and validation of intimate relationships and experiences through a variety of mediums and processes. The exhibition showcases the thesis work of Master of Fine Arts candidates in the UCF School of Visual Arts and Design: Gabe Cortese, Danielle Culibao-Powell, Tim Reid and Annette Tojar.\n\nGabe Cortese's paintings and drawings depict codification of queerness through figuration and symbolism.\n\nDanielle Culibao Powell creates paintings and collages to expand upon personal experiences of falling into, or between, multiple cultures at once.\n\nExperimental filmmaker and installation artist Tim Reid provokes viewers with specific and universal insecurities, contradictions, and hypocrisy.\n\nEmbracing her passion as a former professional pastry chef, Annette Tojar creates paintings of food to explore her cultural identity and personal histories.[](https://gallery.cah.ucf.edu/welcome-back/)\n\nLearn more about the exhibition: \n\nExhibition Dates: February 17 - March 3, 2021 \n \nOur physical gallery space has reopened! DESCRIPTION:Poet Danez Smith will perform an online reading on Saturday, February 27 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. At the event, hosted by Valencia College and the University of Central Florida, Smith will read from their newest book, "Homie," recently named a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle award. The reading will be followed by a Q&A session.\n\nSmith is a Black, queer, poz writer and performer from St. Paul, MN. Their books include "Don't Call Us Dead" (Graywolf Press, 2017), winner of the Forward Prize for Best Collection, the Midwest Booksellers Choice Award, and a finalist for the National Book Award, and "[insert] boy" (YesYes Books, 2014), winner of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry. Smith is a member of the Dark Noise Collective and is the co-host of VS with Franny Choi, a podcast sponsored by the Poetry Foundation and Postloudness.
