The College of Sciences Distinguished Speaker Series Presents: "Examining Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder" Presented by Deborah Beidel, Pegasus Professor of Psychology and Medical Evaluation, University of Central Florida.

October 21st, 2015 at 6:00 PM

Traumatic events are ubiquitous.  Combat veterans, first responders, crime victims, accident or natural disaster survivors – everyone knows someone who has been affected by trauma. Although many people experience traumatic events, approximately 25% of civilians and perhaps up to 30% of combat veterans develop posttraumatic stress disorder, also known as PTSD. In this presentation, we will discuss the symptoms of PTSD, how it develops, who is most likely to develop it and the treatments, including virtual reality that are most effective in treating this disorder.
