One of a series of special topic sessions brought to you by the UCF Bands

Ashley Killam is a multi-faceted performer, educator, drill designer, entrepreneur, and public speaker. Ashley works as the General Manger for Rising Tide Music Press, Chamber Music Database Coordinator for the Institute for Composer Diversity, and has spent her post-school years researching and presenting across the country.

Ashley has performed in a wide range of ensembles, from chamber music to large bands and orchestras, performing professionally with the North Carolina Brass Band, New Mexico Philharmonic, and the Sandia Brass Quintet. As an educator, she teaches students of all ages and skill levels and has been managing a private trumpet studio for nearly a decade. Several of Ashley’s students have been selected for a variety of honor and All-State classical and jazz bands in both New Mexico and North Carolina.

An advocate for underrepresented composers, performers, and creators, Ashley is passionate about expanding awareness for diversity in music by all underrepresented composers. She has presented her lecture “Fanfare for the Unheard” from coast to coast, featuring composers and providing resources to include music by underrepresented composers within individual programs. In her work for the Institute for Composer Diversity, as the Chamber Music Database Coordinator, she builds the databases for all individual instruments and chamber music.

Ashley currently resides in Radford, Virginia with her husband and corgi puppy, Biscuit. She holds a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
