Teaching and Learning Day: Writing High-Quality Multiple-Choice Questions

Friday, September 24, 2021 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) are common in formative and summative, high- and low-stakes assessments in higher education, but constructing MCQs that accurately assess students’ understanding can be challenging. In this session, we will present a recently published guideline called the item writing flaws evaluation instrument (IWFEI). Participants will use the IWFEI to evaluate one of their own existing multiple-choice assessments and design multiple-choice questions. Please bring your most recent MCQ assessment.
