Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, and the Future of Europe

Tuesday, March 22, 2022 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As a former Soviet state, Lithuania has experienced Russian rule, the challenge of achieving independence, and accession to the European Union. Today, it is a NATO member with a growing civil society and economy that strives to balance national security, community, and human rights. The panel will identify trends and prospects for the pivotal role Lithuania will play in European affairs, as it stands between Russia, Belarus, and much of the rest of Europe.

Panelists include (1) Ainius Lašas, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), (2) Eglė Vaidelyte associate professor at KTU, (3) Eglė Būtkevičienė, professor at KTU and vice dean for research, and (4) Vytautas Valentinavičius, head of the Seimas (Lithuanian legislature) Ombudsman's Office of Lithuania and PhD student in political science at KTU.

The panel will be followed by a reception for first- and second-year undergraduate students to learn about a dual degree program in public administration and nonprofit management, which includes a semester of study in Lithuania.
