Ineloquent Truths about Representation From the Represented

Friday, June 24, 2022 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In this lecture, Dr. Kristen Warner (University of Alabama) will explore both the textually mediated moments Black audiences locked themselves into a sort of immutable visible representation as progress, with all the consequences that followed, as well as the moments where identificatory play and recognitions find their way despite and in spite of good intentioned folly. Unpacking the truth concerning the potency of feeling represented for Black audiences, and Black women audiences in particular, can offer insights into developing more resonant kinds of visibility.

This event is part of "Console-ing Passions 2022," a conference held June 23-25 on the UCF campus for an international group of feminist and queer scholars whose interests converge around the study of television, video, audio, and new media. The group was founded in 1989 and has been hosting conferences since 1992. CP conferences present opportunities for scholars at all levels of their careers to engage with feminism, media, and social change.
