The Development of Prejudice in Children

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Description: Are we born with prejudices, or are they learned? Certainly, we know that specific prejudices do not just appear, but may take years to become ingrained in an individual. Yet interestingly, children begin to categorize the world they live in from very early in infancy. So, when do they begin to categorize people, and how does that influence the progression of prejudicial tendencies? Furthermore, what is the role of the child's social world in the prejudices they ultimately learn?
