Distinguished Seminar Series -- Selective Area Regrowth and Doping for Vertical GaN Power Devices

Friday, March 15, 2024 11 a.m. to noon

Join the Department of Materials Science and Engineering for the next lecture in the Distinguished Seminar Series featuring Yuji Zhao, an associate professor of electrical engineering at Rice University. His talk, "Selective Area Regrowth and Doping for Vertical GaN Power Devices," will review his recent progress on selective area regrowth and doping for vertical gallium nitride (GaN) power devices. Additionally, he will discuss the research opportunities in emerging ultra-wide bandgap materials, including boron nitride, diamond and aluminum nitride, which represent the next frontier in electronic and optical materials.

Yuji Zhao is an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Rice University. He received his doctoral degree from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2012 under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Professor Shuji Nakamura. Zhao’s research interests are in the field of wide and ultrawide bandgap materials for applications in power electronics. He has authored and co-authored more than 240 journal and conference publications, four book chapters and over 20 patents. He is the receipt of 2023 TMS Frontiers of Materials Award, the 2019 U.S. Presidential PECASE Award and the 2019 MIT-TR 35 China Award, among others.

All UCF graduate students and faculty are welcome to attend.
