Digital Media Accessibility (UCF Faculty & Staff only) – The why, what and how accessible communication is needed (by all) in an ever-changing digital world.

Thursday, February 16, 2017 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This interactive workshop explains the basics of accessibility. This discussion
begins with addressing the reason behind creating accessible materials (not just
the boring legal issues). The workshop
will examine the key components of different material formats.
Participant will learn about the needs of those who benefit from accessible
materials. A demonstration will be given to explore the assistive technology
tools used by individuals. Finally, UCF employees will be provided with
resources and a list of tips on what can be done to make sure materials are

Identification of Learning Outcomes:
Integrity – Keeping in mind the diverse
needs of all UCF staff and students, this program will demonstrate strategies
to help the UCF community be a more inclusive environment.
Creativity – This program will encourage UCF employees to create and design digital content
with the same rich imagination using the same familiar tools while
incorporating easy best practices of accessibility.

Presenter’s contact information & brief biography
: Brad Held is the Assistive Technology
Coordinator for the Student Disability Services office at UCF. He earned his
Bachelor’s degree in Applied Biotechnology at the University of Georgia in
2006. Prior to arriving at UCF, Brad worked in Assistive Technology for almost
ten years: four years in a public school K-12 setting with Gwinnett County
Public Schools in Georgia and five years in higher-education at The University
of Georgia and The University of South Carolina. He is certified in Assistive Technology
Applications.
