Tandem Dye-Sensitized Photoelectrochemical Cells for Solar Fuel Production

Dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical cells (DSPECs) based on wide band gap
semiconductor metal oxide electrodes with surface bound molecular chromophores
and catalysts represent a promising direction for developing artificial photosynthetic
systems. In order to carry out the overall conversion of water to O2 and H2 with the only
energy input from sunlight, we are investigating the development of tandem DSPECDSSC
(dye-sensitized solar cell) systems. Recent results of such a tandem junction
approach to solar water splitting will be described with a focus on the important factors
that dictate the performance of the system.
All are invited to attend
