Friday, April 21, 2017 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Omar Zeidan, Ph.D., Chief of Proton Therapy Physics
UF Health Cancer Center - Orlando Health

Abstract: Proton therapy has been in existence since 1954. It was largely confined to a handful of national and academic-based research centers for over 50 years. With recent advancements of cyclotron technology and changes in the healthcare landscape, the past decade witnessed an unprecedented surge of proton therapy centers worldwide. The main purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the physics and technology behind clinical proton beam delivery and highlight current clinical practices. Lastly, a highlight of the main challenges with existing and emerging technologies in delivering proton beams is discussed.
