SUMMARY:Good enough practices in scientific computing
URL:https://events.ucf.edu/event/4178795/good-enough-practices-in-scientific-computing/
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is targeted at a broad audience of researchers who want to learn how to be more efficient and effective in their data analysis and computing, whatever their career stage may be. \nThe lesson is inspired by and based on the paper, Good Enough Practices in Scientific Computing (Wilson et al., 2017): "a set of good computing practices that every researcher can adopt, regardless of their current level of computational skill". These practices encompass data management, programming, collaborating with colleagues, organizing projects, tracking work, and writing manuscripts. The goal is to share ideas and practices that can be used to have a smoother experience while performing computational research. These can be considered equivalent to the basic lab skills one is introduced to and trained on for a smooth and safe lab experience. \n \nPrerequisites: There are no specific prerequisites. Learners should be participating or intending to participate in scientific research that involves computing. \n \nLearning outcomes: \n\- Good enough practices for data management \n\- Good enough practices for project organization \n\- Good enough practices for file naming conventions \n\- Good enough practices for tracking changes \n \nThis event is not being recorded. Any materials provided by the presenter will be sent to all registrants by the end of the second business day after the conclusion of the event. Please email ResearchITEvents@ucf.edu to request access to the materials two business days after the completion of the event if you did not register.\n\nPresented by [Nandan Tandon, Ph.D.](https://rci.research.ucf.edu/person/nandan-tandon/)\n\nVirtual Location URL: https://ucf.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5nhHc3yqLyzyJX8\nRegistration Link: https://ucf.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5nhHc3yqLyzyJX8
