Fleming\u003C/strong\u003E\u003C/a\u003E (UCF Biology) will speak on \u0022\u003Cem\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EScaling individual\u002Dlevel movement models up to the population level\u003C/strong\u003E\u003C/em\u003E\u0022 at this week\u0027s seminar.\u003C/p\u003E\u000A\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAbstract:\u003C/strong\u003E Animal tracking data have transformed our ability to quantify movement processes at the level of individual organisms, yet their ability to inform population\u002Dlevel processes remains limited. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to continuous\u002Dtime stochastic processes models of animal movement and present multiple approaches to generalizing this framework to population\u002Dlevel modeling. In particular, I will cover quantifying the population\u002Dlevel variation in individual movement/behavioral characteristics, estimating population spatial distributions or \u0026lsquo\u003Bpopulation ranges\u0026rsquo\u003B, and integrating individual\u002Dlevel movement data into species distribution models of habitat suitability.\u003C/p\u003E\u000A\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EShort Bio:\u003C/strong\u003E Dr. Christen H. Fleming\u003Cspan\u003E\u0026nbsp\u003Bis an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology with a highly interdisciplinary background. He completed his Bachelor of Science at the University of South Alabama, majoring in Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, and \u003C/span\u003E\u003Cspan\u003Eobtained his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Maryland\u003C/span\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E. Dr. Fleming then became a postdoctoral researcher, fellow, and, finally, research associate at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, where he developed and continues to lead the \u0026ldquo\u003Bcontinuous\u002Dtime movement modeling\u0026rdquo\u003B (ctmm) R software package, along with ctmm associated labs at the Center for Advanced Systems Understanding,\u0026nbsp\u003Bthe University of Maryland,\u0026nbsp\u003Bthe University of British Columbia, and the University of Arizona. ctmm is an award\u002Dwinning statistical analysis package for animal tracking data, wherein tracked animal locations are modeled as a continuous\u002Dtime stochastic process that is discretely sampled in time. Dr. Fleming currently heads the Ecoinformatics Lab, which works on the development and application of analytic methods for ecological, environmental, and evolutionary data, with a strong focus on addressing conservation needs. The general aim of the Ecoinformatics Lab is to resolve how abundant, yet complex data can be used to inform conservation and management, through the combination of mathematical, statistical, and computational approaches.\u003C/span\u003E\u003C/p\u003E",
