en-US This year’s Shofner speaker, Dr. Chambliss, will explore how Florida’s comic publishing history shaped American comic culture, revealing the state’s influence on visual storytelling, regional identity, and creative networks through the Comics as Data North America project.
 
Dr. Chambliss is a historian, author, and professor at Michigan State University whose work explores popular culture, comics, race, and digital humanities. He is co-editor of the award-winning Comics as Data North America project and a leading scholar of comics history and cultural studies.
 
The Annual Jerrell H. Shofner Lecture on Florida History and Culture brings invited scholars to UCF to share research and perspectives on Florida’s past. Named in honor of historian and former UCF History Department chair Jerrell H. Shofner, the series connects students, faculty, and community members through the exploration of the state’s history and culture.
