About 95% of those fatalities were caused by the \u003Cem\u003EPlasmodium falciparum\u003C/em\u003E strain. Unlike other strains, \u003Cem\u003EP. falciparum\u003C/em\u003E can cause mortality after recovery due to long\u002Dterm effects of cerebral malaria and severe anemia.\u003C/p\u003E\u000A\u003Cp\u003ETo study the impact of post\u002Dinfection mortality, we formulated a modified susceptible, exposed, infected and removed (SEIR) disease model for \u003Cem\u003EP. falciparum\u003C/em\u003E and investigated how incorporating the PIM factor changes disease dynamics. Analytical and numerical studies show oscillations at parameter values driven by the joint impact of reinfection and mortality among recovered individuals. This can inform public health by showing how \u003Cem\u003EP. falciparum\u003C/em\u003E disease dynamics may differ from what we previously believed and highlighting a possible need for longer\u002Dterm monitoring of recovered patients.\u003C/p\u003E\u000A\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EShort Bio: \u003C/strong\u003ECarolina Solomon is a third\u002Dyear mathematics major at UCF. She was supported by the 2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship to investigate how post\u002Dinfection mortality affects malaria dynamics. She hopes to continue her research in mathematical epidemiology and complete an undergraduate honors thesis in her final year at UCF.\u003C/p\u003E\u000A\u003Cp\u003E\u003C/p\u003E",
