When is the proper and safest time to clear athletes to return-to-play after a concussion?
A premature return may put injured athletes at high risk for recurrent and more severe brain damage. Dr. Semyon Slobounov, Director, Penn State Center for Sports Concussion Research and Services; Director, Virtual Reality/Traumatic Brain Injury research laboratory, argues that both functional and structural brain alterations in "clinically asymptomatic" athletes may be detected via Virtual Reality tools.
