After her reading, award-winning novelist, screenwriter, poet, and memoirist Connie May Fowler will sign books at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in the John T. Washington Center. Fowler is the author of a memoir and five critically acclaimed novels, including Before Women Had Wings, which she also adapted as a screenplay for Oprah Winfrey. The film version of Before Women Had Wings starred Ms. Winfrey and Ellen Barkin and won an Emmy. She is also an activist who works on behalf of victims of child abuse and domestic violence.
