Valada Flewellyn will share how her relationship with the father of the African American museum, Icabod Flewellen who influenced her poetry, storytelling and passion for history.
Valada Flewellyn is the author of Poetically, Just Us 1990, Jack & Jill of America Incorporated: Into the New Millennium 2000 African Americans of Sanford 2009. She is the historian and curator for The National Black Golf Hall of Fame and also the curator of several exhibits: Enter Colored Hats, A Pilot Lights the Way, John T. Washington: A Man Called and most recently High Touch: He Shook Hands with MLK.
She is the co-producer with Prof. Anthony Major of two documentaries: Goldsboro: An American Story and Jesse Leroy Brown: The First African American Fighter Pilot. She works closely with her daughter Toya, who is the president and founder of EYESEEIMAGES, a media firm in Winter Park, Florida. Valada is the Poet Laureate of Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated, and the Poet Laureate for the King of the Zulu tribe at Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 1999.
