Voices of Diversity Professional Alumni Panel

Monday, April 18, 2016 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

On behalf of the SDES TRiO Center and Academic Advancement Programs, it is our pleasure to invite all interested students to attend the Voices of Diversity Professional Alumni Panel.

This panel highlights UCF alumni who are currently practicing in various field of study. Panelists will share their experience in graduate school, discuss transitioning to the workplace, and provide insight and advice to UCF students considering graduate and professional school.

Guests include:

Nadine Barrett, Ph.D. (UCF ’98, ’00) is Director for the Office of Health Equity and Disparities at the Duke Cancer Institute as well as a faculty member at Duke School of Medicine. As a medical sociologist, Dr. Barrett’s areas of specialization include health disparities, cultural competence, community health and outreach, community organizing/engagement among diverse populations, research methodologies, with particular expertise in Community Based Participatory Research.

Cynthia Florentino (UCF ’14) is a Policy Analyst at Association for Computing Machinery in Washington, D.C. Ms. Florentino is also an MA Candidate in International Science & Technology Policy at George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs.

Melonie Sexton, Ph.D. (UCF ’07) is a Professor of Psychological Sciences at Valencia College. Dr. Sexton’s research interests are in Working Memory, Selective Attention, and Visual Cognition. Dr. Sexton was a UCF McNair Scholar.

Omeil Nevarez Ramos, M.S. (UCF ’10, ’13) is a Procurement Engineer at Lockheed Martin. Mr. Nevarez manages the delivery and build of the C-130J Super Hercules Full Flight Trainers. He earned both his bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and master’s in Industrial Engineering from UCF. He is an active member in the Central Florida Community and continually engages in several K-12 STEM outreach programs. He is a UCF Regional Judge in the High School Level FIRST Robotics Competition and continues his mentorship of UCF students as a proud member/alumni of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Incorporated, UCF Chapter.
