The second year of BIOTEC and the fifth year of OCTET will take place this June and July at UCF. These biology and chemistry summer camps are geared toward enriching future young STEM leaders. Up to 40 high school students, who have taken honors, IB, or AP courses in their discipline, are accepted to the free camp.
Directed by Dr. Florencio Hernandez (Chemistry Department), the camps received funding from NSF, UCF Departments of Biology and Chemistry and American Chemical Society. Two graduate students coordinate the camps, Tiffani Manteuffel in Biology and Julie Donnelly in Chemistry. Graduate student instructors from both departments teach college-level material during the week-long camps.
This year, 28 students have been accepted to BIOTEC and 18 students to Chemistry. For more information, visit ucfbiotec.wordpress.com and ucfoctet.wordpress.com.
