Following the Inca Trail: Study Abroad in Peru

An in-service program in Cusco where students teach English to Quechua children at a local elementary school and visit the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

Latin American Studies in partnership with the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola offers a Spring Break program in Cusco, Peru. Students will be introduced to the history, culture, language, biodiversity and future perspectives of Peru and the Latin American realm. This program will include two days of service learning activities at the Huillcapata School located in a rural village outside of Cusco. Throughout the week there will be various excursions to various historical and archaeological treasures of Inca Empire including two-day trips, one to the Sacred Valley and the second to Machu Picchu.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore cultural differences and similarities between the United States and Peru
  • Enhance knowledge of Inca culture and civilization
  • Gain exposure to diverse social problems
  • Experience language and cultural immersion
