Feminist Art: Guerilla Girls and Beyond

Wednesday, October 19, 2016 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Facilitators: Ilenia Colón Mendoza and Student Panel

Date

  • Wednesday, October 19

Feminist art, like the term feminism, is often misunderstood. This session explores artists that have shocked the art world with their imagery. In the 1970s, being subtle was not an option. Ana Mendieta, Valie Export, and Judy Chicago used art to call attention to women's issues and gender inequality. By 1985, the Guerilla Girls had formed to continue the feminist mission while adding race to their agenda. Join us for an informal lecture and discussion of these artists. Warning: This presentation contains images showing female nudity and acts of violence.
