Expert Panel: Minorities in the Non-Faith Community

Thursday, October 20, 2016 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Part of the Diversity Week 2016 events, this expert panel will explore a unique topic.

Most discussions about people of non-faith focus on the relation of the non-religious to the faith community. However, diversity among Secular Americans is growing and individuals of minority demographics within the non-faith community face potential re-victimization, additional challenges, and further isolation.

With a potential impact to many members of our Knight family and our community, it is essential to engage our campus in conversations that promote equal empathy and respect for people of all faith and non-faith perspectives and to recognize the need for perspective-specific support and resources for secular indivdiuals.

Come early to meet local leaders. Tables will open at 12:30.

Moderator: David Williamson, co-founder and a director of the Central Florida Freethought Community

Panelists:

  • Stephanie Guttormson, Transgender Advocate and Operations Director for the Richard Dawkins Foundation
  • David Tamayo, Founder and President, Hispanic American Freethinkers
  • Mandisa Thomas, Founder and President, Black Nonbelievers, Inc.

Email advance questions for the panelists to tee.rogers@ucf.edu.
