Forensic Archaeological Research: The Utilization of Pig Carcasses (Sus scrofa) as Proxies for Human Bodies

Summary: Dr. Schultz’s primary research area is the application of geophysical search methods, including ground-penetrating radar (GPR) for applied Forensic Archaeology contexts including using simulated graves and submerged bodies. This research addresses issues that apply to real-life forensic contexts, and the goal of these projects was to develop evidence-based search guidelines for forensic practitioners. 

Dr. Schultz’s talk will focus on a number of forensic archaeology projects he has directed with his graduate students that involved utilizing pig carcasses as proxies for human bodies.
