When: Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 9:00 – 10:30am
Where: UCF Student Union, Garden Key (Room 221)

Panelists:  Jesus Jara, Deputy Superintendent at Orange County Public Schools, Pamela “Sissi” Carrol, Dean at UCF College of Education and Human Performance, and Thad Seymour, Jr., Vice Provost for UCF Downtown.

Each year the UCF United Way Campaign hosts an expert panel focusing on the tough subjects facing us today. This year, with the recent announcements of the developing UCF Downtown campus, the topic of education in relation to our economy has come up in multiple facets.

Economic growth cannot continue in Central Florida without a healthy, trained workforce. But equipping students with the skills and support they need to graduate high school is no longer sufficient. Research shows that by 2025, more than 2/3 of jobs in Central Florida will require a postsecondary degree or another high quality credential. Currently, less than 40% of our population meets that requirement. What are collectively doing as a community to increase the skill level of the workforce in Central Florida? What are our roles? Join us as we discuss these questions and dive deeper into the subject.

This year, our Moderator for the discussion is Annie Martin, a staff writer for K-12 schools in Orange and Seminole Counties at the Orlando Sentinel Media Group. Filling out our panel we will welcome Jesus Jara, Deputy Superintendent at Orange County Public Schools, Pamela “Sissi” Carrol, Dean at UCF College of Education and Human Performance, and Thad Seymour, Jr., Vice Provost for UCF Downtown.
