Collaborative Interprofessional Communication: Learning the Patient’s Story

Students from the UF College of Pharmacy, UCF School of Social Work (assigned, clinical-level students), UCF College of Nursing, UCF Department of Physical Therapy, and UCF College of Medicine will work together to elicit a patient’s story and learn about working collaboratively with other professionals to achieve a full understanding of a patient’s needs.

The event takes place in the UCF College of Medicine Clinical Skills and Simulation Center.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn about the roles and responsibilities of other care providers and how the team works together to provide care.
  2. Engage other health professionals in shared patient-centered problem-solving.
  3. Choose effective communication tools and techniques to facilitate discussions and interactions that enhance team function.
  4. Listen actively, and encourage ideas and opinions of other team members.
  5. Give timely, sensitive, instructive feedback to others about their performance on the team, responding respectfully as a team member to feedback from others.
