"Managing Conflict Strategically in Personal Relationships" - Presented by Dr. Dan Canary, Professor of Communication at the University of Utah

Wednesday, February 11, 2015 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
How people communicate with each other during conflict in their close, personal relationships critically affects their relationships and their personal well-being. Managing conflict mindfully and strategically helps partners investigate conflict causes, provide an outlet for frustration, solve their problems, and promote relational stability and satisfaction. On the other hand, dysfunctional communication during conflict can lead to rigid patterns of communication, negative emotions, health problems, divorce, and children’s lack of adjustment. In this presentation, Dr. Dan Canary will discuss social science research that has led to identifying and destructive and constructive conflict communication strategies. His focus will be on how communication strategies lead to different conflict outcomes.

The event is geared to undergraduate students, but open to everyone. Read More
