Specialists from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Florida Hospital will conduct free head and neck risk assessments that are quick and painless at the Crosby YMCA, 2005 Mizell Ave., Winter Park, FL.
Risk factors for head and neck cancer include tobacco and alcohol use, human papilloma virus (HPV) diagnosis, and acid reflux disease.
Approximately 25 UCF graduate students from the department will assist with the screenings. They also will help conduct educational outreach activities focused on head and neck cancer prevention and HPV exposure.
