Field of Memories: Be Aware Show You Care

Thursday, September 10, 2015 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
September 7-13, 2015 is National Suicide Prevention Week. The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health, is hosting World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th, 2015. This year’s theme is “Preventing Suicide: Reaching Out and Saving Lives,” and will focus on raising awareness that suicide is a major preventable cause of premature death on a global level. Here at UCF, we will be hosting our annual “Field of Memories: Be Aware Show You Care” Flag Exhibit on Memory Mall, September 10th from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The exhibit is a powerful and poignant visual display representing the 1100 suicides that occur on U. S. college campuses each year. We will be asking students, faculty and staff, as they walk by to write a message of hope to someone who may be struggling with depression or to remember someone lost to suicide. The goal is to fill the field with over a 1000 yellow flags. We are asking for volunteers to help collect the flags to display or to just come out to Memory Mall to support the event by writing your own message of hope to display in the field. We are very happy to have SGA help support this event this year! Read More
