Complicating a Hispanic Serving Institution Identity

Wednesday, September 18, 2019 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Dr. Gina Garcia will provide a brief overview about HSIs, including their history and characteristics, as well as demographics of students, faculty and staff at HSIs. She will also explain her Typology of HSI Organizational Identities. Audience members will learn what it means to move from Latinx-enrolling to Latinx-serving.

Dr. Garcia is an associate professor in the department of Administrative and Policy Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research centers on issues of equity and justice in higher education with an emphasis on three core areas: Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Latinx college students, and race and racism in higher education.
