African-American History: Justice & Islam

Monday, September 30, 2019 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The twentieth century saw the rise of
many prominent black Muslim Americans,
especially Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X,
who took conspicuous and controversial
stances on social justice issues. Despite such
figures, Islam as a form of religiosity among
black Americans remains misunderstood,
stigmatized and even ignored. Come join us
as two nationally recognized scholars share
their insights on the historical relationship
between Islamic conceptions of justice and
black Americans.
