The Impact of Hazing on our Campus Community: Changes to anti-hazing laws in Florida

Wednesday, September 25, 2019 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

More than 55% of college students involved in clubs, teams and organizations have experienced or witnessed hazing. These incidents not only impact the campus community but also the friends and families of both victims and perpetrators.

What happens to a campus community when there is a death or loss?

In November 2017, Tom and Sandy Coffey lost their son Andrew to hazing. On June 25, 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis signed “Andrew’s Law,” which made important changes to Florida’s existing antihazing law. Come find out what you need to know about hazing in Florida.

This presentation will feature the attorneys who drafted Andrew’s Law, David W. Bianchi and Michael E. Levine of Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain, P.A. The goal is to educate Florida students, faculty and staff about the dangers and legal consequences of hazing and to raise awareness about “Andrew’s Law.”
