After 18 years at Tucume: Fieldwork, friendships, and the future
Long term bioarchaeological research projects in foreign countries necessitate collaborations and commitment. Having conducted investigations at the archaeological site of Túcume, on the northern coast of Peru since 2001, Dr. Toyne feels very fortunate to work with local archaeologists and with well-conserved bioarchaeological materials. There have been some challenges to this process of course. In this presentation, Dr. Toyne discusses the nature of international fieldwork sites, pursuing academic research in Peru, and the important relationships that have been developed over the years. This retrospective approach allows the consideration of the complexities and impact of the work, as well as a reflection on key lessons learned.
